Technical Architect Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Define the technical strategy and oversee the hands-on development of a micro-frontend and microservices ecosystem that delivers real-time weather intelligence.

• Lead the end-to-end architecture of a cloud-native micro-frontend ecosystem and a distributed data platform hosted on AWS.

• Create scalable methodologies for micro-frontends, microservices, APIs, and real-time streaming pipelines.

• Set engineering standards across backend systems, data management, front-end frameworks, performance, and security.

• Design and implement REST/GraphQL APIs and Node.js backend-for-frontend (BFF) services operating on Kubernetes.

• Produce responsive cloud-based micro-frontends utilizing JavaScript/TypeScript and contemporary web frameworks.

• Develop real-time hazard streaming functionalities using WebSockets, Server-Sent Events (SSE), and event-driven architectures.

• Architect strategies for caching, tiling, and delivering geospatial and time-series data on the front end.

• Implement secure Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) using AWS Cognito/JWT and uphold federal security compliance.

• Engineer solutions for geospatial, spatial, and historical data to facilitate visualization and analytics.

• Collaborate with DevOps on Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, and deployment strategies.

• Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, contribute to roadmap discussions, and foster high-quality engineering practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of full-stack engineering experience, including leadership roles in complex, cloud-native projects.

• More than 5 years of hands-on experience in microservices/API development with Kubernetes orchestration.

• Extensive knowledge of AWS services (EKS, S3, DynamoDB, RDS) and cloud-native architectures.

• Proficient in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and micro-frontend design principles.

• Strong background in API design (REST, GraphQL).

• Experience with Docker/container orchestration on AWS.

• Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills.

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field is a plus.

• AWS Solutions Architect certification is a plus.

• Familiarity with meteorological formats (GRIB, BUFR, NetCDF) and geospatial databases (PostGIS) is a plus.

• Experience in FISMA-regulated environments, scientific computing, or advanced AWS serverless architectures plus EKS is a plus.
