Tech Lead, Foundations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the technical strategy for Talent's shared services, encompassing user management, authentication and SSO, role-based access control, and notification systems.

• Design and enhance data exchanges via APIs, events, webhooks, and file-based integrations with employers, educational institutions, HRIS, and partner systems.

• Define clear integration contracts, manage versioning, and ensure observability.

• Create reusable services, libraries, and patterns that domain teams can implement with minimal friction.

• Produce documentation, collect feedback, and assess adoption by engineering teams.

• Write and review both front-end and back-end code, establishing standards for code quality, system architecture, and security.

• Collaborate with Product, Security, and Compliance teams on identity, access, consent, and data management requirements.

• Decompose initiatives into milestones and stories; balance platform investments and technical debt in relation to feature requests.

• Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a collaborative engineering culture.

• Utilize AI-assisted development for code generation, testing, refactoring, and documentation.

• Construct resilient, self-healing systems through infrastructure as code, monitoring, and alerting.

• Engage in the on-call rotation for Foundations-owned services.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience from a bootcamp or upskilling program.

• Over 7 years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent, including leading technical direction for a team or shared platform in a SaaS startup or similar environment.

• Proficient in designing APIs and integration patterns utilized by other teams or external partners, with a focus on contracts, backward compatibility, and documentation.

• Strong expertise in Python (Django, Flask, FastAPI, or similar) and TypeScript/JavaScript (React, Next.js), with a PostgreSQL-backed data model.

• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar), cloud infrastructure (AWS or Google Cloud), infrastructure as code, and production monitoring.

• Experience collaborating with Product and Compliance or Security teams in financial services or another regulated sector.

• AI-native in your workflow: you leverage coding tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, etc.) as a significant productivity enhancer and are enthusiastic about what AI can offer engineering.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of articulating technical trade-offs, aligning stakeholders, and making informed decisions amidst uncertainty.

• A genuine interest in technology that promotes access to education and economic mobility.

• Nice to have: practical experience with identity and access systems, authentication, SSO (SAML, OIDC, OAuth), SCIM, and role-based permissions.

• Nice to have: experience in developing notification or messaging systems and event-driven infrastructure.

• Nice to have: expertise in building internal platform or paved-road capabilities adopted by multiple product teams.

• Nice to have: familiarity with enterprise identity requirements, IdP integrations, domain verification, and just-in-time provisioning.

• Nice to have: knowledge of HRIS or ATS integrations or education data standards.

• Nice to have: experience with SOC 2, FERPA, GLBA, and their technical implications.

• Nice to have: prior experience mentoring engineers or transitioning into engineering management.
