This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee all tax-related functions for Tanger
• Prepare and/or assess various tax returns, including income, sales, use, personal property, and miscellaneous taxes
• Manage the income, asset, ownership, and distribution tests essential for maintaining REIT qualification
• Collaborate with the VP, Tax to ensure compliance with international, federal, state, and local tax regulations
• Determine the annual taxability of company dividends
• Supervise international, federal, and state income tax returns and estimated tax payments for the parent REIT, operating partnership, affiliates, and taxable REIT subsidiaries
• Provide guidance to unitholders regarding federal and state estimates of quarterly taxable income and facilitate tax communications
• Manage sales tax returns, audit notifications, voluntary disclosure agreements, and conduct state-by-state analyses
• Review personal property tax records and business license renewals
• Maintain lists of tax return deadlines and manage responses to notices from taxing authorities
• Analyze quarterly REIT income, asset, and distribution tests and engage in REIT calls with external experts
• Conduct tax research related to REIT qualification, changes in federal/state/local laws, partnership issues, and foreign reporting/accounting matters
• Assess the tax implications of sales, purchases, and joint venture arrangements, and assist with due diligence processes
• Implement new tax legislation, IRS guidelines, regulations, elections, and method modifications
• Oversee ASC 740/FIN48 reporting and monitoring for both domestic and Canadian operations
• Analyze triggers for revaluation and supervise associated tasks
• Prepare or evaluate quarterly and annual tax provisions, ASC 740 analyses, uncertain tax positions, deferred tax calculations, and SEC reporting disclosures
• Record and manage tax-basis financial statements for joint ventures
• Prepare and review federal and state income tax workpapers for joint venture returns and supervise external preparers
• Interpret operating agreements and develop income allocation models for new or prospective joint ventures
• Maintain records for joint venture partners, calculate taxable-income estimates, address partner inquiries, and ensure compliance
• A Master of Science with a focus on Taxation or a Juris Doctorate with Tax LL.M is required
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in taxation, preferably within an accounting firm, law firm, or REIT
• An active CPA license is required if holding an MS in Tax
• Preferred experience of 1-3 years in a corporate accounting department or public accounting
• Advanced knowledge of accounting standards and practices, including tax law, regulations, and GAAP
• Familiarity with taxation under federal, state, and international legislation
• Strong research, problem-solving, and decision-making skills based on laws, policies, and best practices
• Ability to foresee and mitigate risks
• Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team
• Commitment to ongoing education required to maintain CPA license
