This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
• Develop and expand Mistral's research and engineering teams based in the US.
• Design and implement strategies for technical recruitment and operations.
• Collaborate with Research leadership from Research Science, Research Engineering, and related technical areas.
• Work alongside technical leaders and hiring managers to identify hiring requirements, establish role specifications, and locate technical talent.
• Manage the complete recruitment cycle for Research Science and Research Engineering positions.
• Provide guidance to hiring managers on market mapping, leveling, compensation strategies, and the competitive landscape.
• Transform the nuances of technical roles into engaging outreach for candidates.
• Source both passive and active candidates from US research and engineering talent pools.
• Facilitate intake and calibration meetings with hiring managers.
• Ensure the creation of efficient, high-conversion pipelines and successfully close candidates.
• Assist candidates throughout the hiring journey while articulating Mistral's mission, culture, and growth trajectory.
• Clarify Mistral's position in AI, including frontier models, open-weight philosophy, and research credibility.
• Share insights regarding the research agenda, compute access, publication culture, and the impact of various roles.
• Enhance and optimize technical recruiting processes, tools, and documentation.
• Leverage data to identify pipeline challenges and recommend focused solutions.
• Construct and maintain market maps, competitive intelligence, and talent pools.
• Standardize technical interview rubrics, scorecards, and debriefing methods.
• Collaborate with Research leadership and the wider Talent team to elevate hiring standards.
• Play a role in shaping the US technical talent acquisition strategy.
• Partner on employer branding and outreach initiatives, including academic pipelines, conference participation, and engagement with the open-source community.
• A minimum of 6 years of recruiting experience.
• At least 2 years spent in a startup or rapidly growing environment.
• Specialized focus on Research Science and Research Engineering roles.
• Ability to independently recruit across the technical spectrum, from Research Engineers to Research Scientists and senior research professionals.
• Extensive network and sourcing expertise within the US research and engineering talent markets.
• Established credibility in AI/ML, with connections to leading labs and universities.
• Proven success in hiring within competitive and candidate-scarce markets.
• Experience engaging with multiple US markets, including relocation and visa-related hiring.
• Openness to assist with other roles as necessary.
• Comfort in navigating ambiguity and shifting between strategic planning and hands-on execution.
• Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities.
• Ability to influence peers and senior technical stakeholders without direct authority.
• Organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing shifting priorities in a high-volume hiring environment.
• Professional experience with contemporary recruiting tools like Ashby.
• Familiarity with the AI/ML research landscape.
• Capability to discuss frontier model capabilities, research directions, and publications credibly with technical candidates.
