Systems Integration Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, and uphold dependable system integrations and technical infrastructure for imaServe, a behavioral health EHR and billing platform.

• Develop and sustain scripts, services, and scheduled interfaces that facilitate data exchange with hospitals, HIEs, payers, and partners.

• Oversee interfaces and troubleshoot failed, delayed, or rejected transactions to ensure confirmed delivery.

• Initiate integrations from specifications and testing through to cutover and documentation.

• Manage source control and oversee builds, releases, backups, and verified rollback procedures.

• Lead the transition to Git, automated builds, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).

• Configure, secure, patch, monitor, and troubleshoot customer-hosted Linux systems.

• Maintain storage, capacity, backups, disaster recovery, certificates, credentials, and system performance.

• Support various Linux versions and guide migrations away from outdated operating systems.

• Collaborate with customer IT and security teams during maintenance, implementations, incidents, and go-lives.

• Participate in an on-call rotation and perform scheduled after-hours maintenance.

• Create inventories, runbooks, and technical documentation.

• Utilize Claude Code daily for scripting, code review, legacy-code analysis, and documentation while validating output.

• Document interfaces and customer environments, establish a repeatable release process, verify backups, enhance monitoring, and evaluate systems needing modernization.

• Manage Protected Health Information in compliance with HIPAA obligations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Linux systems administration, DevOps, or systems/integration engineering in a production environment where system availability is critical.

• Strong systems thinking and sound judgment.

• Capability to work independently through complex technical challenges.

• Clear written communication skills for documentation, specifications, technical handoffs, and correspondence.

• Ability to juggle competing technical priorities in dynamic environments.

• Proficient in Bash/POSIX shell scripting, including error handling, logging, and idempotent behavior.

• Extensive experience with Red Hat-family Linux across various versions, including RHEL, CentOS, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, or Oracle Linux.

• Knowledge of storage, permissions, systemd and SysV services, yum/dnf, cron, networking, firewalls, SELinux, SSH, package management, logging, and performance troubleshooting.

• Experience administering customer-owned on-premises servers or cloud environments via customer-managed access tools, including MFA and jump hosts.

• Familiarity with customer change-control processes, approvals, maintenance windows, and collaboration with IT and security teams.

• Experience operating unattended data interfaces using SFTP/FTPS, HTTPS/REST, curl or equivalent tools, certificates, and credentials.

• Proficient in managing version-control repositories and strong Git skills.

• Experience in build and release management, including compiling and linking C applications on Linux, working with makefiles, and overseeing controlled production deployments.

• Working knowledge of TLS/PKI and secure secrets management.

• Ability to navigate a large, long-lived legacy codebase with minimal documentation carefully.

• Willingness to use Claude Code or similar AI-assisted development tools daily and critically assess generated work.

• Readiness to participate in an on-call rotation and conduct scheduled after-hours maintenance.

• Ability to comply with HIPAA requirements and pass a background check.

• Preferred: Experience with healthcare interfaces such as HL7 v2, C-CDA/CCD, IHE XDS.b, X12 EDI 837/835, Direct secure messaging, or HIE integrations.

• Preferred: Production experience with an EHR, practice management, or revenue cycle system.

• Preferred: Familiarity with ISAM or other non-relational databases, particularly FairCom c-tree, Btrieve, or similar.

• Preferred: Exposure to AlphaBASIC, Business BASIC, COBOL, MUMPS, or source-to-C transpilation toolchains.

• Preferred: Microsoft Azure IaaS experience; AWS or other cloud experience is welcome.

• Preferred: Experience with end-of-life operating system migrations.

• Preferred: CVS-to-Git migration and CI/CD pipeline experience.

• Preferred: Configuration management or infrastructure-as-code experience with Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform.

• Preferred: Experience with containers.

• Preferred: Supporting infrastructure for multiple clients at a software company or managed service provider.

• Preferred: Monitoring and alerting experience with Nagios, Icinga, Zabbix, Prometheus, or ELK.

• Preferred: Experience in Python or Perl.

• Preferred: Hands-on experience with Claude Code.

• Preferred: Familiarity with HIPAA Security Rule technical safeguards, SOC 2, or HITRUST.
