Systems Engineer – Sustainment Engineering, Digital Thread

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver systems engineering support focused on sustainment for the Coast Guard's digital transformation and lifecycle modernization projects.

• Conduct analyses on reliability, maintainability, availability, and supportability that inform decisions regarding readiness and total ownership costs.

• Create, manage, and oversee digital thread connections across requirements, architecture, designs, configuration baselines, technical data, and sustainment/logistics information.

• Manage and configure PLM software, including workflows, change management, BOM/product structures, and system integrations.

• Assist in configuration management and technical data management, which encompasses change proposals, audits, baseline control, and technical data packages.

• Evaluate sustainment requirements and propose technical recommendations.

• Generate CONOPS, requirements documentation, interface definitions, sustainment plans, workflows, and technical assessments.

• Convert operational requirements into traceable UAFML model artifacts.

• Develop and maintain architecture models using Cameo Enterprise Architecture; perform queries, validation checks, and trade studies.

• Connect architecture model elements to PLM-managed configuration items to ensure digital thread traceability.

• Identify and manage risks associated with obsolescence and DMSMS.

• Collaborate with teams specializing in cloud, cybersecurity, data, and application development.

• Engage in governance boards, configuration control boards, technical reviews, stakeholder meetings, and status briefings.

• Assist in the development of technical roadmaps, PLM/digital thread strategies, and data migration plans.

• Monitor risks, dependencies, technical challenges, and impacts on integration.

• Contribute to ongoing improvement, digital engineering standards, and operational readiness planning.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, along with 8–10 years of relevant experience, or 6–10 years with a Master’s degree; additional experience may be considered in place of a degree.

• Proven experience in sustainment engineering or product support engineering for complex systems, including lifecycle support planning, configuration management, and readiness analysis.

• Practical experience with PLM software, such as PTC Windchill or Siemens Teamcenter, encompassing product structure/BOM management, change management workflows, and document/data management.

• Experience in establishing and maintaining traceable digital thread connections throughout the system lifecycle.

• Background in supporting complex federal IT, systems engineering, or modernization initiatives.

• Familiarity with systems engineering lifecycle processes and practices related to requirements management.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• U.S. Citizenship is required.

• Capability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust and Secret clearance.

• Preferred: experience with enterprise-scale PLM deployment, OCSMP Model Builder or equivalent MBSE proficiency, MBSE/PLM integrations, logistics product data and support standards, DMSMS/obsolescence management, and familiarity with U.S. Coast Guard, DHS, or DoD programs.
