Systems Engineer, Spacecraft Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage RPO mission plans, encompassing relative motion design, approach and hold-point sequencing, delta-V budgets, and operational timelines.

• Incorporate passive safety measures into spacecraft approaches.

• Draft flight rules and procedures for close approaches, which include keep-out volume enforcement, go/no-go gates, abort and breakout criteria, custody handoffs, and conjunction screening.

• Oversee mission operations plans and procedures spanning LEOP, commissioning, on-orbit checkout, and operations.

• Lead pre-launch operational campaigns, which involve day-in-the-life tests, mission rehearsals, failure injection, and corrective actions.

• Validate procedures and command sequences on flatsats and hardware-in-the-loop testing environments.

• Integrate operational constraints into GNC, flight software, ground software, and communication designs.

• Generate and assess vehicle and campaign performance metrics.

• Address anomalies, identify root causes, and coordinate subsequent actions under tight deadlines.

• Educate operators and mission crews on spacecraft and RPO execution.

• Assist with ground testing, launch windows, and on-orbit operations.

• Collaborate with teams and government entities to secure FCC and NOAA licenses and adhere to spacecraft operating regulations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.

• Strong engineering foundation from industry or education, preferably in Aerospace Engineering, Astrodynamics, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.

• A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in spacecraft operations, mission planning, or flight dynamics.

• Hands-on RPO experience on a flown or near-flight mission, whether on the planning or execution front.

• Experience guiding a spacecraft through pre-launch operational readiness, which includes AI&T support, procedure validation, mission rehearsals, day-in-the-life testing, and operational readiness reviews.

• Ability to swiftly comprehend and navigate intricate systems and detailed requirements.

• Proficient at resolving complex technical challenges with minimal oversight.

• Strong written communication skills, including the creation of procedures, flight rules, and training materials.

• Applicants based in Colorado must reside in Colorado for this remote position.
