Systems Engineer – Contract

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Argentina.

📋 Description

• Design and develop high-performance components using Rust, C++, or Go for Nexus’s DEX engine and protocol runtime.

• Create low-latency pipelines for order execution, event propagation, and state updates.

• Enhance concurrency, scheduling, memory layout, and I/O paths to achieve determinism and maximum throughput.

• Contribute to execution abstractions that may be incorporated at the protocol layer.

• Collaborate with protocol engineers to ensure safety, composability, and compatibility with consensus mechanisms.

• Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks through profiling, tracing, and benchmarking techniques.

• Assist in establishing standards for reliability, correctness, and high-assurance distributed execution.

• For senior or principal candidates: lead system design choices, influence execution architecture, and mentor others in performance engineering.

• Work alongside protocol, cryptography, and product teams in San Francisco while contributing remotely from Argentina.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong proficiency in Rust, C++, Go, or other systems programming languages.

• Knowledge of high-performance or distributed systems (e.g., low-latency engines, runtimes, databases, OS-level concurrency).

• Capability to conceptualize execution flows, concurrency models, resource lifecycles, and system invariants.

• Practical experience in profiling CPU, memory, and synchronization overhead.

• Comfort in working close to runtime constraints where performance, determinism, and resilience are essential.

• Excellent communication skills in Business English, both spoken and written.

• Junior level: 1–3 years of experience.

• Principal level: 8+ years of experience.

• Willingness to work during PST hours (San Francisco, CA timezone) and be on-call.

• Must be located within a commutable distance to Buenos Aires.

• Bonus: experience with matching engines, databases, compilers, blockchain runtimes, or HPC systems.

• Bonus: familiarity with lock-free concurrency, zero-copy data structures, or cache-aware design.

• Bonus: exposure to protocol engineering, consensus systems, or transaction ordering.

• Bonus: background in correctness-focused engineering, such as formal verification or static analysis.

• Bonus: contributions to open-source systems-level projects.
