System Engineer – GovCon

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Deliver high-level technical assistance for internal GovCon systems and selected external clients.

• Serve as an escalation point for intricate issues related to systems, networks, security, and compliance.

• Design, develop, maintain, and support networks, VLANs, firewall configurations, routing, Windows Server environments, virtual machines, storage, RAID setups, and host platforms.

• Manage and troubleshoot Hyper-V and/or VMware environments, Microsoft Azure resources, advanced applications, servers, and network services.

• Execute VM and storage migrations across various hosts and platforms.

• Implement and sustain Microsoft Azure infrastructure, encompassing VMs, VNets, gateways, and virtual firewalls.

• Support and uphold CMMC-scoped environments, which include network segmentation, VLAN design, identity and access controls, and secure administrative access frameworks.

• Ensure ongoing CMMC Level 2 compliance throughout GovCon systems.

• Collaborate with compliance, security, and leadership teams to address remediation strategies and assessment gaps.

• Generate, maintain, and verify CMMC technical evidence, including system configurations, security settings, architectural and network diagrams, and control implementation documentation.

• Evaluate system modifications, deployments, and upgrades for CMMC implications prior to implementation.

• Engage in incident response related to CUI or GovCon systems, encompassing investigation, containment, and documentation.

• Assist external GovCon clients with compliant infrastructure, security configurations, CMMC-aligned best practices, and escalation support.

• Enhance GovCon-specific standards, baselines, and runbooks to ensure audit readiness.

• Remain updated on the latest CMMC and NIST guidelines and implement necessary changes.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3–7 years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure, or advanced technical support.

• Experience in NinjaOne RMM administration.

• Proficiency in Windows Server deployment and administration.

• Network infrastructure implementation and management experience, including routers, firewalls, switches, and LAN/WAN.

• Familiarity with VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualization.

• Experience in Microsoft Azure infrastructure implementation.

• Strong documentation abilities for both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Capacity to work independently with excellent client service skills.

• Proven organizational capabilities and ability to juggle competing priorities.

• Accurate documentation of work performed, time, and related paperwork.

• Professional written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Ability to draft business correspondence and process procedures.

• Capability to present information and address inquiries from managers, clients, and the general public.

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Must be a U.S. person; employment visa sponsorship is not available.

• A dedicated, secure, and distraction-free remote workspace is required.

• Bonus: CMMC RP or CCP certification.

• Bonus: Expertise in Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, Cisco, or related technologies.

• Desired certifications include MCSE, Network+, Microsoft Azure Administrator AZ-104, VCP, CCNA, and ITIL Foundation.
