This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.
• Take ownership of the system-level requirements flow-down for digital power conversion hardware, ensuring traceability throughout the design lifecycle.
• Document and communicate design choices, analyses, and test results through formal reports and technical reviews.
• Lead the architecture and detailed design of digital power conversion, encompassing DC/DC stages, gate drives, protection circuits, sensing chains, and control electronics.
• Plan and execute the verification and validation of digital power conversion hardware and systems, including establishing procedures, lab setup, and conducting environmental, functional, and performance testing.
• Define and validate insulation coordination and high-voltage design standards, focusing on creepage/clearance and high-voltage practices.
• Design and review PCBs and schematics for power stages, gate drivers, control boards, and sensing modules utilizing tools such as Mentor Graphics and Altium.
• Oversee high-voltage testing and qualification, including partial discharge and insulation tests at both altitude and ground level.
• Collaborate with AI&T to develop and enhance automated test benches and lab infrastructure, incorporating scripting and automation.
• Promote lab safety, structured testing protocols, and safe high-voltage/high-power operations.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to early-career engineers and colleagues.
• Participate in proposals, trade studies, and technology roadmaps for Thermal Management Systems control and digital power systems.
• Work in conjunction with mechanical and systems engineering teams to integrate electrical and thermal solutions for high-reliability aerospace hardware.
• Facilitate cross-functional integration among systems, hardware, testing, and manufacturing teams.
• An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a focus on power electronics, power conversion, or electric drives.
• Extensive experience (e.g., 15+ years) in electrical engineering and electrical systems engineering, emphasizing power electronics, digital power conversion, and/or electric drive systems and controls hardware for aerospace or similarly rigorous applications.
• Demonstrated experience in leading the design, verification, and validation of power conversion hardware (DC/DC, AC/DC, DC/AC) and associated control electronics.
• Familiarity with high-voltage systems, insulation coordination, and HV testing and qualification processes.
• Capability to collaborate across cross-functional technical teams while managing technical scope, schedules, and risks.
• Strong foundation in electrical systems engineering, requirements decomposition, and PCB/schematic design for power and control boards.
• Experience with DO160/MIL-STD-461/MIL-STD-704-compliant design practices and integration with system-level requirements.
• Technical leadership experience in complex aerospace programs and coordination of cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, LTSpice, PSIM, or PSCAD.
• Familiarity with IBM DOORS and MBSE tools.
• Knowledge of JIRA and Confluence.
• Experience in designing and validating high-voltage, high-power conversion systems up to several kilovolts, including insulation coordination and partial discharge considerations.
• Practical HV lab experience with oscilloscopes, power analyzers, HV test setups, and automated test benches.
• A strong commitment to lab safety and structured testing procedures.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% as required.
