Surgical Technician Program Mentor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Conduct weekly 1:1 mentorship sessions with assigned students lasting about 30 minutes each.

• Reinforce surgical technology principles in line with the TS-C certification exam.

• Relate academic coursework to practical operating room workflows.

• Enhance student confidence in healthcare terminology, surgical procedures, and operating room expectations.

• Offer encouragement, accountability, tailored study strategies, and progress coaching.

• Promote professional conduct, patient safety, professionalism, communication, and teamwork.

• Support students in achieving certification and clinical readiness in areas such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, infection prevention, aseptic technique, instrumentation, operating room setup, intraoperative assisting, surgical counts, specimen management, documentation, various specialties, postoperative procedures, and OR turnover.

• Assist students in preparing for the Clinical Skills Lab and their subsequent externship.

• Address student inquiries between mentorship sessions.

• Track engagement and academic progress, identify at-risk learners, and escalate any concerns.

• Document mentorship sessions and monitor learner progress.

• Collaborate with Live Instructors, Advisors, Clinical Skills Lab trainers, and the Learning Experience team.

• Share insights on student misconceptions and opportunities for curriculum enhancement.

• Provide constructive feedback on clinical skills and readiness for certification.

• Offer valuable insights to improve future cohorts and enhance learner outcomes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C) credential from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).

• A minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a Surgical Technician.

• Previous experience in supporting trainees, students, or new Surgical Technicians as a preceptor, trainer, mentor, instructor, or clinical educator.

• Ability to clearly explain surgical technology concepts to learners without prior healthcare experience.

• Strong knowledge of sterile technique, infection prevention, instrumentation, intraoperative workflow, and patient safety.

• Reliable high-speed internet connection; hotspots are not acceptable.

• Proficient in using Zoom, learning management systems, Google Workspace, and online collaboration tools.

• Commitment to responding to Springboard communications within 24 hours.

• Ability to address student inquiries within 24–48 business hours.

• Strong empathy and communication skills with students.

• Positive attitude towards the Surgical Technician profession and career path.

• Capability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and trust with learners.

• Must reside and work in the United States.

• Experience in a hospital operating room is strongly preferred.

• Preferred experience in mentoring adult learners, supporting TS-C exam preparation, working in online or hybrid learning environments, onboarding or precepting new Surgical Technicians, and holding leadership or clinical educator roles across multiple surgical specialties.
