Supervisor, Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Deliver hands-on technical expertise and daily leadership for the design, development, delivery, operation, and support of Avalon’s software products and services.

• Participate actively in coding, architecture, and design decision-making.

• Address technical challenges, issues, and escalations within the development team.

• Keep abreast of technology trends and encourage ongoing learning.

• Guide, mentor, and assist in the career development of team members.

• Create opportunities for growth through challenging projects, skill enhancement, and exposure to emerging technologies.

• Work in partnership with product teams, architects, stakeholders, and senior leaders to define product requirements and roadmaps.

• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and performance assessments.

• Ensure the successful execution of projects and initiatives.

• Keep up-to-date with industry and organizational knowledge through self-education and training.

• Recognize staffing needs, engage in recruitment efforts, and provide input on hiring decisions.

• Promote accountability, continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years in a technical leadership position.

• Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or over 10 years of direct, applicable experience in lieu of a degree.

• Familiarity with IT Engineering, Quality Assurance, and automation best practices.

• Experience in a continuous improvement setting with a proven history of achieving significant ongoing development.

• Exceptional project management, problem-solving, organizational, relationship, communication, and negotiation skills (both oral and written).

• Capability to thrive in a fast-paced, Agile (SAFe, Scrum, and Kanban) environment.

• Strong comprehension of IT strategy and its alignment with business objectives.

• Must possess effective oral and written communication abilities.

• Prior hands-on experience in a technical lead or senior engineering role is mandatory.

• Experience with agentic AI tools and their implementation in software engineering.

• Background in insurance or healthcare is preferred.

• Knowledge of healthcare data exchange, clinical workflows, and integration architectures is advantageous.

• Solid understanding of AWS (Amazon Web Services) services is preferred.

• Experience collaborating with remote employees and contractors is preferred.

• Ability to work alongside offshore engineers is preferred.

• Previous experience in an early-stage growth company is beneficial.

• Practical experience with proof-of-concept (POC) development is preferred.
