Substitute Teacher – Secondary Social Studies

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide virtual support for the learning program for students enrolled in Connections Academy schools nationwide.

• Serve as the teacher of record during both short- and long-term absences or vacancies, with assignments typically lasting between 2 to 20 weeks, averaging around 8 to 12 weeks.

• Stay online and accessible for students, parents, and school staff from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, following the school’s time zone while on assignment.

• Regularly communicate with parents, students, and teachers to create and refine individualized learning plans and schedules.

• Offer constructive feedback on student assignments and recommend effective instructional methods and strategies.

• Oversee assignment completion and confirm student learning outcomes.

• Handle grading, produce progress reports, and conduct parent-teacher conferences.

• Facilitate both synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).

• Provide assistance to students and parents regarding instructional strategies, assignments, and projects.

• Keep accurate student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance, and logs.

• Collaborate with counselors and special educators to meet the individual needs of students.

• Update stakeholders on student behaviors and classroom activities.

• Check email outside of assignments for updates on future assignments and Substitute Services information.

• Conduct monthly meetings via video conference with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor.

• Participate in required professional learning sessions throughout the year.

• Maintain active teaching certifications.

• Must possess a valid and active full state teaching certification and be highly qualified.

• Having multiple state certifications is an advantage.

• Capability to obtain certification in additional states as needed.

• Ability to secure further clearances upon request.

• A Bachelor's degree or higher is required.

• Maintain a dedicated, distraction-free home working environment.

• Availability from Monday through Friday during assigned school hours, typically 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone for long-term assignments.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands flexibility, prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.

• Familiarity with IEP/504 plans and their virtual implementation is necessary.

• Strong attention to detail and robust time management and organizational skills are crucial.

• Proven dedication to student achievement.

• Strong technological skills; experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Apps is preferred.

• Must have reliable, high-speed internet access.

• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required; a PC is preferred.

• A customer-focused approach and a history of being a team player are essential.

• Must not provide care for others during standard school hours while on assignment; alternative care arrangements are necessary.

• Employment in another job during normal school hours while assigned is not permitted.

• Completion of required orientation and training within 30 days of hire and at the start of each school year is mandatory.

• 2-step authentication is required to access systems if offered the position.
