Substitute Teacher – Secondary Science

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide virtual support for educational programs for students enrolled in Connections Academy schools nationwide.

• Act as the teacher of record during both short- and long-term absences or vacancies, with assignments typically ranging from 2 to 20 weeks and averaging between 8 to 12 weeks.

• Be available online for students, parents, and school staff from Monday to Friday, usually between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm in the respective school’s time zone.

• Engage in regular communication with parents, students, and teachers to create and update personalized learning plans and schedules.

• Offer feedback on student assignments, recommend instructional strategies, track assignment completion, and confirm student understanding.

• Handle grading, produce progress reports, and conduct parent-teacher conferences.

• Support both synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).

• Aid students and parents with alternative instructional methods, daily tasks, and projects.

• Keep accurate records and data for current students, including cumulative files, online family information, attendance, and logs.

• Work in collaboration with counselors and special educators to address individual student needs and provide updates on student behavior and classroom activities.

• Regularly check email when not assigned to stay updated on future assignments and Substitute Services information.

• Participate in monthly meetings via video conference with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor.

• Fulfill professional learning requirements and maintain active certifications.

• Must possess a valid and active full state teaching certification and be highly qualified.

• Holding multiple state certifications is advantageous.

• Capability to obtain certification in additional states as needed.

• Ability to secure further clearances as required.

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher is necessary.

• Must have a dedicated, distraction-free home working space for all work-related activities.

• Availability during school hours from Monday to Friday, typically 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone, is required for long-term assignments.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands flexibility, prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.

• Knowledge of IEP/504 plans and their virtual implementation is important.

• Strong attention to detail along with effective time management and organizational abilities are required.

• A demonstrated commitment to student success is necessary.

• Proficient technology skills; familiarity with learning management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Apps is preferred.

• Reliable and high-speed internet access is required.

• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is necessary; a PC is preferred.

• A customer-focused mindset and a proven history of being a team player are vital.

• Must not provide care for others during regular school hours while on assignment.

• Cannot be employed in another job during normal school hours while on assignment.

• Complete orientation and training programs within 30 days of hiring and at the start of each school year.

• Two-step authentication is required to access systems upon being offered the position.
