Substitute Teacher – Secondary Math

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide virtual support for the educational programs for students enrolled in Connections Academy schools nationwide.

• Act as the primary teacher at various Connections Academy schools during short- or long-term absences or vacancies, generally lasting between 2 to 20 weeks, with an average duration of 8 to 12 weeks.

• Be available online for students, parents, and school staff from Monday to Friday during designated school hours.

• Engage in regular communication with parents, students, and teachers to create and adjust individualized learning plans and schedules.

• Offer constructive feedback on student assignments and recommend instructional methods and strategies.

• Oversee assignment completion and confirm student learning outcomes.

• Handle grading responsibilities, produce progress reports, and conduct parent conferences.

• Facilitate instruction through both synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).

• Support students and parents with alternative instructional strategies, daily tasks, and projects.

• Keep up-to-date student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance, and student logs.

• Work collaboratively with counselors and special educators to address the unique needs of individual students.

• Provide updates regarding student behaviors and classroom activities.

• Regularly check email when not actively assigned for future assignments and updates from Substitute Services.

• Hold monthly meetings with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor via video conference.

• Complete mandatory professional learning throughout the year.

• Maintain all necessary certifications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must possess a valid and active full state teaching certification and be highly qualified.

• Having multiple state certifications is advantageous.

• Capability to obtain certification in additional states as required.

• Ability to secure additional clearances as needed.

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.

• Must have a dedicated, distraction-free home workspace where all work-related activities will take place.

• Available Monday through Friday during assigned school hours, typically from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school's time zone for long-term assignments.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands flexibility, prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.

• Familiarity with IEP/504 plans and their virtual implementation.

• Exceptional attention to detail along with strong time management and organizational abilities.

• Demonstrated commitment to student success.

• Proficient technology skills; experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Apps is preferred.

• Must have reliable, high-speed internet access.

• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required; PC is preferred.

• A customer-focused approach and a proven ability to work as part of a team.

• Cannot provide care for others during regular school hours while on assignment.

• Cannot hold another job during regular school hours while on assignment.

• Completion of required orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the beginning of each academic year is necessary.

• Two-step authentication will be required to access all systems if offered the position.
