Substitute Teacher – Secondary English

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide virtual support for the learning program for students in Connections Academy schools nationwide.

• Serve as the teacher of record at various Connections Academy locations during short- or long-term absences or vacancies, typically ranging from 2 to 20 weeks with an average duration of 8 to 12 weeks.

• Be online and accessible to students, parents, and school staff from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the respective school’s time zone while on assignment.

• Engage in regular communication with parents, students, and teachers to create and update individualized learning plans and schedules.

• Provide constructive feedback on student work, recommend instructional strategies, monitor assignment completion, and assess student learning.

• Complete grading, generate progress reports, and conduct parent-teacher conferences.

• Facilitate instruction through synchronous and asynchronous web-conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).

• Assist students and parents with alternative instructional strategies, daily assignments, and projects.

• Maintain up-to-date student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance records, and student logs.

• Collaborate with counselors and special educators to address individual student needs and provide updates on student behavior and classroom activities.

• Check email during non-assignment periods for information on upcoming assignments and updates from Substitute Services.

• Meet monthly with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor via video conferencing.

• Complete required professional learning throughout the year.

• Keep all certifications active.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must possess a valid and active full state teaching certification and be highly qualified.

• Multiple state certifications are advantageous.

• Ability to secure certification in additional states as required.

• Ability to acquire further clearances as needed.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.

• Must have a dedicated, distraction-free home working environment.

• Availability is required Monday through Friday during assigned school hours, typically from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone for long-term assignments.

• Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires flexibility, prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.

• Familiarity with IEP/504 plans and their implementation in a virtual environment is essential.

• Exhibit strong attention to detail, as well as time-management and organizational skills.

• Show a proven commitment to student achievement.

• Possess strong technology skills; experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office programs, and Google Apps is preferred.

• Reliable, high-speed internet access is required.

• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is necessary (PC preferred).

• Must have a customer-focused approach and a history of being a team player.

• Alternative care arrangements must be made, as providing care for others during normal school hours while on assignment is not permitted.

• Employment in another job during normal school hours while on assignment is not allowed.

• Complete the required orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the start of each school year.

• A two-step authentication process is required to access systems if the position is offered.
