Substitute Teacher, Grades 6-8

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Provide virtual support for the educational program catering to students in Connections Academy schools nationwide from a secure and distraction-free home office.

• Serve as the teacher of record at Connections Academy schools during both short- and long-term absences or vacancies, with assignments typically ranging from 2 to 20 weeks, averaging 8 to 12 weeks.

• Be accessible online to students, parents, and school staff from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, in the school’s time zone while on assignment.

• Regularly communicate with parents, students, and teachers to create and update personalized learning plans and schedules.

• Offer feedback on student assignments, recommend instructional strategies, track assignment completion, and assess student learning.

• Perform grading, generate progress reports, and conduct parent conferences as directed.

• Facilitate instruction through synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).

• Assist students and parents with alternative instructional strategies and support for assignments and projects.

• Keep current student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance, and student logs.

• Collaborate with counselors and special educators to address individual student needs and provide updates on student behavior and classroom activities.

• Regularly check email when not on assignment for upcoming tasks and updates from Substitute Services.

• Meet monthly with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor via video conference.

• Complete required professional development throughout the year.

• Maintain active teaching certifications.

• Must possess a high level of qualification and maintain a valid and active full state teaching certification.

• Multiple state certifications are advantageous.

• Capability to acquire certification in other states as requested.

• Ability to obtain additional clearances as needed.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.

• A dedicated and distraction-free home working environment is essential for all business activities.

• Availability Monday through Friday during assigned school hours, typically from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone, for long-term assignments.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are necessary.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting that demands flexibility, prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.

• Familiarity with IEP/504 plans and their virtual implementation is expected.

• Strong attention to detail along with excellent time management and organizational skills.

• Proven dedication to student success.

• Proficient technology skills; experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office applications, and Google Apps is preferred.

• Must have reliable high-speed internet access.

• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required (PC preferred).

• A customer-centric approach and a history of being a team player are essential.

• Cannot provide care for others during regular school hours while on assignment; alternative care arrangements are necessary.

• May not hold another job during normal school hours while on assignment.

• Must complete required orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the start of each school year.

• Two-step authentication is necessary to set up login credentials for all systems upon receiving a job offer.
