Substitute Teacher – Elementary

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide virtual support for the learning program to students in Connections Academy schools nationwide.

• Serve as the teacher of record during periods of short- or long-term absences or vacancies, typically for assignments ranging from 2 to 20 weeks, with an average duration of 8 to 12 weeks.

• Stay online and accessible to students, parents, and school staff from Monday to Friday during designated school hours.

• Regularly communicate with parents, students, and teachers to create and update individualized learning plans and schedules.

• Offer feedback on student assignments, recommend instructional strategies, monitor the completion of assignments, and confirm student comprehension.

• Complete grading tasks, produce progress reports, and hold parent conferences.

• Facilitate synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).

• Assist students and parents with alternative instructional strategies, daily assignments, and projects.

• Keep up-to-date student records and data, which includes cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance, and student logs.

• Collaborate with counselors and special educators to address individual student needs and provide updates on student behaviors and activities.

• Check email during off-assignment periods for upcoming assignments and updates from Substitute Services.

• Attend monthly meetings with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor via video conference.

• Fulfill required professional learning and maintain active certifications.

• Must possess a valid and active full state teaching certification and be highly qualified.

• Having multiple state certifications is advantageous.

• Ability to obtain certification in additional states upon request.

• Capability to secure extra clearances as needed.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.

• Must have a dedicated, distraction-free home working environment.

• Availability from Monday to Friday during assigned school hours, typically from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school's time zone, for long-term assignments.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands flexibility, prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.

• Understanding of IEP/504 plans and their virtual implementation.

• Strong attention to detail along with effective time management and organizational skills.

• Proven dedication to student success.

• Proficient technology skills, including experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Apps.

• Reliable access to high-speed internet.

• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required; a PC is preferred.

• A customer-focused attitude and a history of being a team player.

• Must not provide care for others during regular school hours while on assignment.

• Must not hold another job during regular school hours while on assignment.

• Required to complete orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the start of each school year.

• Two-step authentication will be required to access systems if offered the position.
