Substitute Teacher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Provide virtual support for the educational program for students enrolled in Connections Academy schools nationwide.

• Serve as the teacher of record during short-term or long-term teacher absences or vacancies, typically covering assignments ranging from 2 to 20 weeks, with an average duration of 8 to 12 weeks.

• Be accessible online to students, parents, and school staff from Monday to Friday during designated school hours.

• Maintain regular communication with parents, students, and teachers.

• Create and update personalized learning plans and schedules.

• Offer constructive feedback on student assignments and recommend instructional methods and strategies.

• Oversee assignment completion and validate student learning.

• Conduct grading, generate progress reports, and hold parent conferences.

• Facilitate synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).

• Assist students and parents with alternative instructional strategies, daily tasks, and projects.

• Keep current student records and data, inclusive of cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance, and student logs.

• Collaborate with counselors and special educators to address individual student needs.

• Provide updates regarding student behaviors and classroom activities.

• Regularly check email when not on assignment for upcoming tasks and updates from Substitute Services.

• Meet with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor at least once a month via video conferencing.

• Complete necessary professional development throughout the year.

• Maintain active teaching certifications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be highly qualified and possess a valid and active full state teaching certification.

• Multiple state certifications are advantageous.

• Ability to acquire certification in additional states as needed.

• Capability to obtain further clearances upon request.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.

• Must have a dedicated, distraction-free home workspace where all professional activities will take place.

• Availability from Monday to Friday during assigned school hours, typically 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone, for long-term assignments.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment that necessitates flexibility, prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.

• Familiarity with IEP/504 plans and their virtual implementation.

• Strong attention to detail along with excellent time management and organizational abilities.

• Proven dedication to student achievement.

• Proficient technology skills; experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Apps is preferred.

• Reliable, high-speed internet access is essential.

• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required (PC preferred).

• A customer-focused mindset and a history of being a team player are necessary.

• Must not provide care for others during standard school hours while on assignment; alternative care arrangements must be made.

• Must not hold another job during normal school hours while on assignment.

• Complete mandatory orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the beginning of each school year.

• Two-step authentication will be required to access all systems if offered the position.
