Substitute Teacher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.

📋 Description

• Provide virtual support for the learning program for students enrolled in Connections Academy schools nationwide.

• Serve as the teacher of record during both short- and long-term absences or vacancies, typically for assignments lasting 8–12 weeks and ranging from 2–20 weeks.

• Be available online for students, parents, and school staff Monday through Friday during designated school hours.

• Engage in regular communication with parents, students, and teachers to create and update customized learning plans and schedules.

• Offer constructive feedback on student assignments and recommend instructional methods and strategies.

• Track assignment completion and assess student learning outcomes.

• Manage grading, generate progress reports, and hold parent conferences.

• Facilitate synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).

• Support students and parents with alternative instructional methods, daily tasks, and projects.

• Keep accurate student records and data, including cumulative files, family information, attendance, and student logs.

• Work collaboratively with counselors and special educators to address individual student needs.

• Provide updates regarding student behavior and classroom activities.

• Check email during off-assignment periods for updates on upcoming tasks and Substitute Services notifications.

• Participate in monthly video conferences with a Substitute Services supervisor.

• Complete mandatory professional learning requirements and maintain active certifications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be highly qualified and possess a valid and active full state teaching certification.

• Multiple state certifications are advantageous.

• Capability to obtain certification in additional states as needed.

• Ability to secure further clearances as requested.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.

• Must have a dedicated, distraction-free home working environment.

• Availability Monday through Friday during assigned school hours, typically from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the respective school’s time zone.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands flexibility, prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.

• Familiarity with IEP/504 plans and their virtual implementation.

• Strong attention to detail, along with excellent time management and organizational abilities.

• Demonstrated commitment to student achievement.

• Proficient technology skills; experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Apps is preferred.

• Must have reliable, high-speed internet access.

• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required; PC is preferred.

• Customer-oriented attitude with a proven collaborative team-player history.

• Must not provide care for others during normal school hours while on assignment.

• Must not be employed in another job during normal school hours while on assignment.

• Required to complete orientation and training within 30 days of hire and at the beginning of each academic year.

• Two-step authentication is mandatory for system login if selected for the position.
