Substitute Teacher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Provide virtual support for the educational program for students enrolled in Connections Academy schools nationwide.

• Serve as the teacher of record during both short- and long-term absences or vacancies, typically covering assignments of 8 to 12 weeks, ranging from 2 to 20 weeks.

• Be available online for students, parents, and school staff from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm in the school's time zone during assignments.

• Regularly communicate with parents, students, and teachers to create and update individualized learning plans and schedules.

• Provide constructive feedback on student work and recommend instructional methods and strategies.

• Oversee assignment completion and confirm student learning outcomes.

• Handle grading, produce progress reports, and facilitate parent conferences.

• Assist with synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).

• Support students and parents with alternative instructional methods, daily assignments, and projects.

• Keep current student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family details, attendance records, and student logs.

• Collaborate with counselors and special education professionals to address individual student needs.

• Provide regular updates regarding student behaviors and classroom activities.

• Check email during non-assignment periods for information about upcoming assignments and updates from Substitute Services.

• Conduct monthly meetings via video conference with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor.

• Participate in required professional development throughout the year.

• Maintain active teaching certifications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be highly qualified and possess a valid and active full state teaching certification.

• Multiple state certifications are advantageous.

• Ability to obtain teaching certification in additional states if requested.

• Capability to secure further clearances as required.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher is necessary.

• Must have a dedicated, distraction-free work environment at home.

• Availability from Monday to Friday during assigned school hours, generally from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school's time zone for long-term assignments.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands flexibility, prioritization, self-motivation, and creativity.

• Familiarity with IEP/504 plans and their virtual implementation is required.

• Strong attention to detail along with effective time management and organizational skills.

• Proven dedication to student success.

• Proficient technology skills; experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Apps is preferred.

• Must have reliable, high-speed internet access.

• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required (PC preferred).

• A customer-focused attitude and a history of being a team player are necessary.

• Must not provide care for others during regular school hours while on assignment; alternative care arrangements are mandatory.

• Cannot hold another job during normal school hours while on assignment.

• Required to complete orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the start of each school year.

• Two-step authentication will be necessary to access systems if offered the position.
