Substitute K-12 Special Education Teacher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Provide virtual support for the learning program catered to students in Connections Academy schools nationwide from a secure and distraction-free home office.

• Serve as the teacher of record at Connections Academy schools during short- or long-term absences or vacancies, typically lasting between 2 to 20 weeks, with an average duration of 8 to 12 weeks.

• Utilize telephone, Internet, and curriculum tools for regular consultations with students, Learning Coaches, and school staff.

• Be present and accessible from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone while on assignment.

• Collaborate with parents, students, and teachers to create and update individualized learning plans and schedules.

• Provide constructive feedback on student assignments, recommend instructional strategies, monitor completion of tasks, and verify student learning outcomes.

• Complete grading, generate progress reports, and conduct conferences with parents.

• Support synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).

• Assist students and parents with alternative instructional strategies, daily assignments, and projects.

• Keep up-to-date student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance records, and student logs.

• Work collaboratively with counselors and special educators to address individual student needs and provide updates on student behavior and classroom activities.

• Check email when not on assignment for upcoming tasks and updates from Substitute Services.

• Meet at least once a month with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor through video conferencing.

• Engage in required professional learning activities throughout the year.

• Maintain active teaching certifications.

• Must be highly qualified and possess a valid and active full state teaching certification.

• Holding multiple state certifications is an advantage.

• Ability to obtain certification in additional states upon request.

• Capacity to acquire further clearances as needed.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.

• Must maintain a dedicated and distraction-free home office where all work-related activities will take place.

• Availability from Monday to Friday during assigned school hours, generally from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone, for long-term assignments.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires flexibility, prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.

• Knowledge of IEP/504 plans and their implementation in a virtual setting is important.

• Strong attention to detail along with effective time management and organizational skills is required.

• Demonstrated commitment to student success is essential.

• Proficiency in technology; experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Apps is preferred.

• Reliable, high-speed internet access is mandatory.

• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required (PC preferred).

• A customer-focused approach and a proven track record as a team player are necessary.

• Care for others during normal school hours while on assignment is not permitted; alternative care arrangements must be made.

• Employment in another job during normal school hours while on assignment is prohibited.

• Completion of required orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the start of each school year is necessary.

• Two-step authentication will be required to access all systems if offered the position.
