This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Implement physical and protection and control (P&C) projects for substations.
• Conduct quality control assessments on substation physical and P&C design projects.
• Interpret and create one-line drawings, three-line drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, plan-section drawings, conduit layouts, and grounding designs.
• Develop and review bills of materials for substation physical and P&C projects.
• Generate and evaluate project estimates and timelines.
• Perform quality assurance checks on designs.
• Support the entire project lifecycle, from initial scoping to final design and implementation.
• Adhere to client standards when executing designs.
• Collaborate with designers and drafters to produce necessary project drawings.
• Provide support during construction phases.
• Participate in occasional site visits to client locations.
• Ensure compliance with project scope, deadlines, budget, quality standards, and safe work practices.
• Operate as a member of a design team consisting of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians.
• Applicants must reside in the United States.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field is required.
• A minimum of four years of relevant substation design experience.
• Proven experience in executing substation physical and P&C projects.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with internal teams and clients.
• Capability to meet deadlines in high-pressure situations.
• Ability to collaborate and take the lead effectively within a team setting.
• Capacity to work autonomously with limited supervision.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Adherence to quality control and safe work practices.
• Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification is a plus.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License is a plus.
• Familiarity with protection and control design is beneficial.
• Experience with bus calculations, relay settings, grounding studies, lightning protection, and lighting studies, as well as AC and DC calculations.
• Proficient in using WinIGS or CDEGS.
• Experience with CAD software is required.
• Field testing/commissioning experience is considered an asset.
• A Master’s degree in a related discipline is an additional advantage.
