Strategy Lead – Improved Forest Management

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Oversee the Improved Forest Management Strategy in British Columbia while promoting Nature United’s objectives for 2030.

• Provide strategic guidance and enhance the IFM Theory of Change through regular strategy evaluations.

• Establish success metrics and implement systems to monitor progress toward the 2030 IFM objectives.

• Recognize emerging trends, risks, and opportunities within conservation, forestry, climate, policy, and Indigenous rights.

• Adapt strategic direction in response to evolving conditions.

• Ensure alignment of the IFM strategy with the priorities of First Nations, government, the forest sector, and funding organizations.

• Promote policy conditions that support Indigenous-led conservation and enhanced forest management.

• Represent Nature United’s IFM Strategy both internally and externally.

• Cultivate support among environmental NGOs, funders, government entities, and industry stakeholders.

• Collaborate with teams focused on conservation, forestry, climate, project management, and other strategic areas.

• Encourage integration across various strategies and regions, including the Emerald Edge and Columbia Basin programs.

• Work together on budgeting, work planning, risk management, and adaptive management frameworks.

• Lead the IFM team, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing organizational culture.

⛳️ Requirements

• BA/BS degree with 7 years of experience in conservation and/or resource management or a comparable mix of education and experience.

• Proven experience in managing complex or multiple projects, including overseeing finances and coordinating the efforts of other professionals and partners.

• Background in partnership development with First Nations, non-profit organizations, community groups, and/or government entities.

• Knowledge of forest and natural resource management policy in British Columbia.

• Familiarity with systems thinking principles.

• Understanding of the Indigenous rights landscape in British Columbia and Canada.

• Experience in negotiating complex agreements with governmental bodies and the private sector.

• Leadership experience, including motivating, guiding, setting goals, and supporting team performance and well-being.

• Availability to travel approximately 10–20% and work flexible hours as necessary.
