STEM and Complex Document Accessibility Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Remediate STEM and technical documents to comply with relevant accessibility standards

• Generate accessible mathematical equations utilizing MathML along with suitable accessible representations

• Revise scientific publications, engineering documents, academic research, and technical reports

• Create meaningful alternative text and detailed descriptions for intricate diagrams and graphics

• Transform data visualizations, charts, and complex tables into accessible formats

• Assist in the remediation of GIS maps, engineering drawings, and technical schematics

• Examine complex source documents and determine appropriate accessible alternatives

• Collaborate with subject-matter experts to maintain technical precision

• Conduct manual validation of intricate accessible content

• Document remediation methodologies, accessibility constraints, and QA findings

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in remediating complex scientific, technical, or mathematical documents

• Background in higher education, research institutions, scientific organizations, or technical government settings

• Familiarity with MathML and accessible mathematical content

• Knowledge of PDF/UA, WCAG 2.1 AA, and document accessibility standards

• Proficiency in PDF remediation tools and Microsoft Office accessibility features

• Capability to develop accessible representations of intricate charts, equations, tables, and graphics

• Strong focus on technical accuracy and document quality

• Essential demonstrated STEM remediation experience

• ADS and DHS Trusted Tester certifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen or Green Card holder; candidates with other visa types cannot be considered

• Availability as a 1099 or Corp.-to-Corp. contractor; W2 position is not available
