This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assist in supporting State and Local Public Policy by uniting cross-functional teams within the company to identify issues and assess their effects on Stripe.
• Develop strategies aimed at addressing Stripe’s primary state-level concerns.
• Collaborate with trade associations and coalitions to promote policy matters significant to Stripe and its users.
• Cultivate relationships within state and local political spheres.
• Recruit and oversee consultants.
• Manage Stripe's political contributions at the state and local levels.
• Establish a strategic network of peers among Stripe users and comparable fintech companies for coordinated advocacy at the state and local levels.
• 5-8 years of experience in public policy, particularly concerning state legislative and regulatory matters within either the public or private sector.
• Willingness to travel regularly.
• Strong political connections in a key market for Stripe (e.g., preferably California).
• A blend of political acumen and the capability to delve deeply into intricate policy issues, particularly in financial services, payments regulation, and artificial intelligence.
• Proven experience advocating across multiple states before legislators, regulators, attorneys general, and governors, including their associated political and policy associations.
• Demonstrated expertise in coalition building, coordinating trade associations, and managing state consultants.
• A “start-up mentality”: a readiness to be hands-on, adapt, challenge existing norms, take risks, and learn.
• A humble approach and a dedication to teamwork.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong strategic thinking, creativity, and the ability to manage several tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to travel approximately 30-40% annually.
• Knowledge of or passion for payments, technology, and financial services.
• A keen interest in entrepreneurship, ideally backed by experience with startups and founders.
• The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator, a creative problem-solver, possesses substantial public policy experience, and collaborates effectively with Legal, Regulatory, Communications, and other departments across various regions.
