This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assist in all product design initiatives through fluid analysis methodologies.
• Utilize hand calculations and steady-state CFD to forecast fluid dynamics across engine systems and components.
• Create steady-state and transient 1D engine fluid-system models to anticipate component operating conditions and engine startup behaviors.
• Recognize design enhancements and collaborate with engineering teams to fulfill system-level specifications.
• Coordinate with the testing team to request instrumentation for validating analytical models.
• Aid in anomaly investigations by replicating engine-operation measurements using transient 1D fluid models.
• Manage fluid models for rocket engines and related systems across various design phases, including concept, clean-sheet, and mature systems.
• Enhance analytical techniques and develop innovative approaches and tools.
• Offer professional development, mentorship, and technical support to colleagues.
• Evaluate hardware risk and performance while providing proactive design recommendations.
• Report directly to the Propulsion Analysis Team Lead.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• Over 5 years of combined experience in fluid analysis, including CFD and 1D modeling.
• Proficiency in Computational Fluid Dynamics with commercial software; ANSYS Fluent or CFX preferred, with StarCCM+ or similar tools being a plus.
• Experience in developing steady and transient 1D fluid-system models.
• Proven background in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
• Programming skills; Python preferred, with MATLAB or other high-level programming languages also acceptable.
• Basic familiarity with 3D CAD software; Creo and NX are ideal.
• Experience with complex fluid-mechanical systems, including combustors, turbomachinery, and control systems.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic startup setting.
• Previous experience with safety-critical systems in production settings.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
• Must be a U.S. Person, including U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents.
• Preferred qualifications include an M.S. or PhD, over 10 years of experience, expertise in specialty CFD applications, transient phenomena modeling, cryogenic/high-pressure/two-phase/supercritical fluid analysis, and experience in professional rocketry or turbomachinery.
