Staff Systems Engineer – Mainframe MQ, CICS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Direct and guide a team of engineers focused on the design, construction, and maintenance of The Home Depot's technical infrastructure.

• Oversee the configuration, troubleshooting, and support of information technology solutions.

• Manage technology rollouts for both field and corporate environments.

• Establish system software, hardware, and equipment to adapt to evolving infrastructure requirements.

• Develop and enhance specifications for technology solutions.

• Generate and oversee hardware and software procurement requests.

• Lead the creation of functional and destructive test suites to facilitate rapid infrastructure-as-code deployment.

• Stay informed about innovations, industry trends, and changes in internal systems.

• Engage in modern systems engineering communities and learning initiatives.

• Analyze business trends and behavioral data to pinpoint strategic opportunities.

• Guide the evaluation, development, and recommendation of strategic technology solutions.

• Research and architect infrastructure, networking, database, cloud, AI, and security frameworks.

• Develop and maintain infrastructure as code and AI models.

• Take part in strategic project planning and management across various initiatives.

• Create formal training programs.

• Collaborate with product and project teams to facilitate infrastructure solutions.

• Assist in technology architecture design reviews.

• Monitor applications, infrastructure, networks, databases, and security; enhance performance.

• Conduct root cause analysis, debugging, support, and post-mortem reviews for security incidents and service outages.

• Maintain, upgrade, and provide support for existing systems and infrastructure.

• Act as the primary contact for vendors regarding resource management, issue resolution, and documentation.

• Lead the development of in-house technical documentation.

• Provide support for production applications.

• Mentor junior Systems Engineers.

• Transform knowledge-base articles into AI models.

• Drive enhancements to analytic models used for performance analysis.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be at least eighteen years old.

• Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field of study.

• A minimum of 3 years of professional experience.

• Experience in various Information Technology disciplines, either professional or educational.

• Strong proficiency in collaborative, cross-functional, modern engineering teams.

• Excellent troubleshooting and remediation skills across multiple Information Technology areas.

• Familiarity with debuggers, runtime analysis, library systems, compiled programming, and software update tools.

• Expertise in system and environment analysis, design, and optimization.

• Exposure to technical roadmaps, work estimation, refactoring, and modernizing legacy systems.

• Proficient in object-oriented programming languages, preferably Java.

• Experience in distributed computing environments and code reviews.

• Knowledge of system security design and management.

• Familiarity with disaster recovery planning and engineering.

• Proficiency in operating system commands, utilities, and scripting.

• Proficiency with cloud platforms such as GCP and Azure.

• Experience in supporting a 24x7 retail operation.

• Proficiency with version control systems.

• Familiarity with CI/CD toolchains.

• Expertise in production system designs, including Infrastructure as Code, High Availability, and performance monitoring.

• Experience with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
