Staff Software Engineer, Tech Lead – NetBox Delivery

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and develop software solutions that install, upgrade, and operate NetBox, encompassing Kubernetes operators, controllers, internal APIs, and release tools.

• Enhance NetBox and its core plugins to boost production speed and reliability.

• Integrate observability into the software you own and establish standards for testing, documentation, and service level objectives (SLOs).

• Take responsibility for the technical direction and architecture of building, releasing, and managing NetBox on Cloud and Enterprise platforms.

• Lead and mentor engineers, including Site Reliability Engineers (SRE), through design and code reviews.

• Collaborate with the NetBox Core team and the Cloud, Enterprise, and Foundations teams to define release contracts and facilitate cross-team changes through Requests for Comments (RFCs).

• Serve as a technical escalation point during incidents and ensure completion of postmortem actions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in software development, demonstrating technical ownership of a production system or platform area.

• Proficient in Python with experience in production SaaS applications; familiarity with Django and Postgres is preferred.

• Proven experience in building software on Kubernetes, including operators, controllers, or deployment tools.

• Strong understanding of reconciliation loops, custom resources, and the Kubernetes API.

• Experience in integrating observability into applications, covering error reporting, distributed tracing, metrics, and structured logging.

• Familiarity with tools such as OpenTelemetry and Sentry.

• Practical experience with AWS, Kubernetes and Helm, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD or FluxCD, Terraform, Prometheus, and Grafana.

• Demonstrated ability to lead engineering initiatives without formal managerial authority, including mentoring fellow engineers.

• Hands-on experience in an AI-augmented development environment, including tools like Claude Code and effective agentic tooling workflows.

• A proven track record of making technical decisions amidst ambiguity and facilitating work across team boundaries.
