Staff Software Engineer – Search, AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +44 more states.

📋 Description

• Lead the enterprise architecture and technical strategy with a focus on microservices-based design and AI platform engineering.

• Create and implement scalable microservices architectures, APIs, domain-driven services, and event-driven systems.

• Oversee the development and integration of AI/ML solutions, including large language models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and agentic frameworks.

• Design scalable data platforms and pipelines for both real-time and batch processing across enterprise systems.

• Facilitate AI-driven intelligent search, recommendations, and decision-support systems.

• Direct the development and optimization of search algorithms and systems utilizing Elastic, OpenSearch, or Solr.

• Promote the adoption of CI/CD, DevOps, and automated testing techniques using tools like GitHub, Jenkins, CircleCI, and Harness.

• Ensure system reliability, observability, and performance through effective monitoring and operational excellence.

• Collaborate with product managers, architects, and business stakeholders to create scalable, modular, and intelligent solutions.

• Conduct design reviews and establish best practices for microservices architecture, API contracts, and service governance.

• Mentor junior engineers.

• Advocate for responsible AI practices, including model evaluation, governance, and ensuring production readiness.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in software engineering, encompassing the full software development lifecycle.

• At least 5 years of experience in building enterprise-scale cloud-native applications on platforms such as GCP, Azure, or AWS.

• Over 5 years of programming experience in languages like Java, Python, Kotlin, or Go, focusing on backend and API-driven development.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in designing and developing microservices architecture, including service decomposition, API design, and event-driven patterns.

• At least 2 years of experience in integrating AI/ML solutions, including LLMs, RAG architectures, or AI-enabled applications.

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in designing and implementing distributed systems and microservices at scale, emphasizing resiliency, scalability, and fault tolerance.

• Familiarity with ElasticSearch, OpenSearch, Solr, Lucene, or similar search technologies.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.

• Proficiency in Docker and Kubernetes.

• Strong knowledge of observability, logging, monitoring, and production support practices.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (HS diploma plus 4 years of relevant experience).

• Preferred: Experience in building intelligent data-driven systems, including personalization, recommendations, and analytics platforms.

• Preferred: Expertise in machine learning, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, mathematical methods, search relevance, and ranking techniques.

• Preferred: Ability to articulate complex technical concepts and their business implications to a diverse audience.
