Staff Software Engineer – OCR, Text Extraction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical direction for the document content extraction and transformation team.

• Lead architectural choices utilizing OCR technologies such as Tesseract and Apryse OCR.

• Spearhead initiatives focused on scalability, performance, reliability, and cost management.

• Steer the progression of the content extraction and transformation technology stack.

• Design and execute event-driven architectures leveraging AWS, Kafka, and contemporary data pipelines.

• Develop production-quality full-stack applications utilizing C#/.NET, AWS, and document extraction technologies.

• Create and implement scalable REST and GraphQL APIs.

• Incorporate AI-driven services and innovative technologies.

• Enable semantic search functionalities.

• Consider security, performance, and compliance in all initiatives.

• Oversee projects from conception to production and ongoing refinement.

• Implement observability through logging, metrics, telemetry, and tracing.

• Monitor and enhance performance at scale.

• Produce technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and design rationale.

• Collaborate with product management and work alongside Platform Services, Ops, and other teams.

• Mentor engineers and foster knowledge-sharing through code reviews, design discussions, and documentation.

• Research and validate new technologies through proof of concepts (POCs).

• Contribute innovative ideas to enhance engineering speed and quality.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field—or equivalent experience.

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering production-grade applications at scale on cloud platforms.

• 5+ years in technical leadership and development roles utilizing OCR technologies.

• Proven history of constructing scalable applications currently in production.

• Expert-level proficiency in C#/.NET.

• Expert-level proficiency with OCR technologies such as Tesseract or Apryse.

• Expert-level proficiency in developing event-driven, microservice-based products.

• Expert-level proficiency in cloud platform development, preferably AWS.

• Expert-level proficiency with Kafka or similar event streaming platforms.

• Expert-level proficiency in observability, including logging, metrics, tracing, telemetry, preferably with DataDog.

• Extensive experience with OCR & Text Extraction technologies.

• Extensive experience in building document management or enterprise content management systems.

• Profound knowledge of event-driven architectures.

• Familiarity with ingesting millions of documents per hour into a SaaS-based document management platform.

• A track record of developing high-performance content extraction and transformation products at scale.

• Legal industry expertise or experience with B2B SaaS in regulated sectors.

• Experience in integrating AI services and emerging technologies into production systems.
