Staff Software Engineer, Motion Planning

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Italy, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and refine mission, behavior, and motion planners for autonomous ground support equipment functioning in airport airside settings.

• Influence technical choices throughout the planning stack, encompassing algorithm selection, interface specifications, and system architecture.

• Prototype and assess optimization-based, search-based, and learning-enhanced planning strategies, implementing the most effective solutions into production.

• Collaborate with teams in perception, controls, localization, and systems engineering to create a cohesive autonomous driving system.

• Establish and advocate for best practices in software development, functional safety, and systems engineering within the planning sector.

• Provide mentorship to engineers through technical advice, code reviews, and design discussions.

• Report to the Planning Tech Lead and collaborate closely with the autonomy engineering team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or a related discipline.

• Significant hands-on experience in designing and deploying planning modules for autonomous systems that are operational in real-world scenarios.

• Proficient programming abilities in C++ (preferred) or Python.

• Familiarity with Linux-based operating systems.

• Proven capability to tackle ambiguous technical challenges and translate them into well-structured solutions independently.

• Strong communication skills, proactive attitude, and a robust sense of ownership.

• MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field (preferred).

• Expertise in Modern C++ (version 14 and beyond) and safety-critical coding standards such as MISRA and ISO 26262 (preferred).

• Over 5 years of industry experience in planning for robotic ground vehicles (preferred).

• Deep understanding of DDS frameworks like ROS/ROS2 or other networking middleware (preferred).

• Experience working in startup environments (preferred).
