Staff Software Engineer, Elixir

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Argentina.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and enhance intricate systems that involve multiple teams, services, and repositories.

• Lead architectural discussions and support significant technical decision-making processes.

• Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain systems in a production environment.

• Perform comprehensive, high-volume code reviews across various repositories.

• Collaborate with and mentor engineers from different teams.

• Identify and resolve complex production issues, including those related to algorithms and data accuracy.

• Develop and sustain data ingestion pipelines, event-driven services, and infrastructure that spans multiple services.

• Decompose large, unclear, cross-team initiatives into organized projects and tasks.

• Enhance shared engineering practices and infrastructure, including CI/CD, developer tools, observability, testing, and security measures.

• Record system architecture and formulate operational runbooks.

• Work alongside engineering leaders and business stakeholders to convert ambiguous challenges into technical solutions.

• When necessary, create user-facing features from start to finish, covering everything from data models to Phoenix LiveView interfaces.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of professional experience in software engineering.

• Strong expertise in Elixir and functional programming principles.

• Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining production applications using Elixir and Phoenix.

• Proven ability to own and develop extensive systems that encompass multiple services, repositories, and teams.

• Solid understanding of software architecture and experience leading technical decisions across teams.

• Familiarity with Phoenix LiveView is highly desirable.

• Excellent knowledge of PostgreSQL, including skills in query optimization and performance tuning.

• Experience in constructing data ingestion pipelines or ETL processes, especially from external data sources.

• Knowledge of event-driven architectures, message queues, and maintaining data consistency across services.

• Strong analytical and debugging skills, particularly in complex, numerical, or data-heavy systems.

• Proficiency with Git, code reviews, automated testing, and collaborative development methodologies.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to influence technical directions across teams.

• Proven track record of effective work in highly autonomous and primarily remote settings.

• Familiarity with AWS services such as SQS/SNS, S3, Athena, or Glue.

• Experience in deploying and managing services on Kubernetes/EKS.

• Knowledge of event sourcing, CQRS, or schema-versioned events such as Protobuf or Avro.

• Experience in building systems from the ground up and later evolving or transitioning them to different teams.

• A strong record of enhancing engineering productivity through mentoring, collaborative efforts, code reviews, tooling, or technical leadership.

• Ability to lead through influence rather than formal authority.

• Experience in diagnosing and addressing complex production issues in systems that were not originally developed by the candidate.
