Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the architecture, technical roadmap, and operational effectiveness of the On-Demand module, which encompasses demand ingestion, shift matching, claim eligibility, incentive pricing, FTE attainment, timecard audits, and the GraphQL API utilized by web and mobile platforms.

• Collaborate with the On-Demand Product Manager on discovery, roadmap planning, and decision-making trade-offs.

• Lead design reviews and document architecture decision records.

• Maintain architectural consistency within the pod and across related teams.

• Implement enhancements to the platform in areas such as observability, testing strategy, CI/CD, data pipelines, and integration frameworks.

• Resolve recurring production failures and manage the most challenging on-call and production incidents.

• Establish alert systems to prevent issues from affecting customers.

• Mentor engineers, elevate standards in code reviews, and cultivate the growth of senior engineers.

• Apply principles of security and data protection relevant to healthcare data.

• Utilize AI-assisted development and guide the team in its responsible application.

• Engage proactively with engineering, product, business, and leadership teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a comparable field.

• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, including significant time at the Staff level or higher, with responsibility for production systems built on Ruby on Rails and React.

• Demonstrated ownership of multi-service or multi-team architecture, including integrations with third-party enterprise systems.

• Strong emphasis on operational excellence: observability, on-call responsibilities, performance, testing, CI/CD, and a proactive approach to eliminating recurring failures.

• Experience in establishing standards or patterns that extend beyond your own team, along with mentoring engineers to advance their skills.

• Proficient in Postgres, GraphQL, background job pipelines, testing frameworks, and Git.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development and the discernment to coach others effectively.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in both English and Portuguese.

• Applicants must reside in Brazil.

• Experience in English-speaking environments is preferred.

• Previous experience in a start-up environment is advantageous.

• Experience in healthcare, scheduling, or marketplace domains is a plus.

• Experience working with U.S. companies is preferred.
