Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Play a vital role as a proficient full-stack engineer across the UI, API, service, and database layers under the guidance of the Principal Engineer's architectural vision.

• Design, develop, test, and maintain robust software solutions that enhance Insurance Remittance capabilities within the Trellis product.

• Create features that offer insights into insurance remittance activities linked to incoming Electronic Remittance Advices (ERAs).

• Develop summary and detailed views to assist practice staff in efficiently understanding and posting insurance funds.

• Design and implement guided workflows that support practice staff throughout the insurance posting process.

• Engage in architecture and design discussions, identifying potential challenges and proposing feasible solutions.

• Convert architectural guidance and product requirements into sustainable and reliable software.

• Collaborate with the Principal Engineer, VP of Product, Design, QA, and other engineering team members to achieve roadmap priorities.

• Take ownership of assigned full-stack tasks from UI to database, covering design, implementation, and testing.

• Contribute to maintaining code quality standards, automated testing, technical documentation, and engineering best practices.

• Identify opportunities to enhance system reliability, scalability, maintainability, and developer experience.

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of healthcare, Revenue Cycle Management, insurance remittance, and ERA workflows.

• Support initiatives aimed at automating insurance posting and other strategic product features.

• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.

• Over 8 years of professional software engineering experience with proven full-stack development skills.

• Experience working at a Staff-level, including significant involvement in architecture and technical design discussions across various application layers.

• Proven experience in designing and developing production software across frontend, backend, services, and database layers.

• Familiarity with AWS and ECS-based service architectures.

• Experience in healthcare, Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), insurance claims, insurance remittance, or Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) is highly preferred.

• Strong understanding of AI-enhanced development tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code).

• Proficient in TypeScript across the application stack.

• Extensive experience with ReactJS and modern frontend development practices.

• Experience in developing backend APIs using Fastify and Zod or similar TypeScript-based frameworks and validation libraries.

• Background in AWS/ECS-based architectures and cloud-native application development.

• Ability to comprehend and contribute to technical architecture across UI, API, service, and database layers.

• Strong software design and engineering judgment, capable of evaluating trade-offs and communicating technical recommendations clearly.

• Proven ability to take ownership of complex technical projects and deliver reliable, maintainable solutions with minimal supervision.

• Solid understanding of software development lifecycle practices, including testing, code review, documentation, and deployment.

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, able to work effectively with engineering, Product, Design, QA, and business stakeholders.

• Capacity to learn complex healthcare and revenue cycle workflows and apply that knowledge to technical and product decisions.

• Experience with Ant Design and/or internal design systems is preferred.

• Background in developing applications related to healthcare, RCM, insurance, or financial workflows is preferred.

• Experience in contributing to products involving automated workflows, payment processing, remittance, or financial transaction data is a plus.
