Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software that drives Sonatype's product provisioning, licensing, and purchasing functionalities.

• Create scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend services.

• Engage in technical design discussions and make architectural choices.

• Work collaboratively with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams.

• Produce clean, well-tested, and maintainable code.

• Take part in code reviews.

• Diagnose and resolve production issues.

• Enhance system performance, reliability, and scalability.

• Guide and mentor engineers through technical advice, design evaluations, and knowledge sharing.

• Contribute to automation, infrastructure enhancements, and cloud-native engineering methodologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of professional software engineering experience in developing production-grade applications.

• Hands-on experience with agent-driven development and code review processes.

• Extensive experience in developing backend applications using Java.

• Proficiency in additional programming languages such as Golang and Python.

• Familiarity with AWS.

• Practical experience with Docker, Terraform, and Ansible.

• Experience with Maven.

• Knowledge of relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL.

• Experience with event-driven architectures and microservices.

• Strong grasp of software design principles, testing, debugging, and distributed systems.

• Excellent communication skills coupled with a passion for mentoring fellow engineers.

• A desire to remain technically engaged and hands-on while providing technical leadership.

• Exposure to Microsoft Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is preferred.

• Experience with licensing, provisioning, subscription management, or purchasing systems is advantageous.

• Familiarity with Agile development environments is preferred.

• Knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD best practices is preferred.
