Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Develop, construct, and maintain low-level systems within Fusion, Fusion Snapshots, Ignite, and Sched.

• Produce dependable, thoroughly tested code primarily using Go and C, incorporating Rust and JVM (Groovy/Java, Micronaut) as needed by the codebase.

• Engage closely with the operating system: FUSE filesystems, Linux namespaces, CRIU checkpoint/restore, process supervision, signal handling, and static musl builds.

• Address multi-cloud orchestration and scheduling: provider abstractions (AWS, Azure, GCP), instance selection, autoscaling, spot-instance fault tolerance, and durable asynchronous queues.

• Lead performance engineering initiatives — including chunked I/O, multi-level caching, buffer pools, and bandwidth management.

• Establish technical direction and elevate standards for testing, observability, and operational excellence.

• Guide colleagues and assist in the onboarding of new engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in building production-grade systems software, with a technical ownership role at the Staff level.

• Proficient in Go and comfortable with C (or C++), with a strong understanding of the operating system.

• In-depth knowledge of Linux internals — including filesystems, namespaces, processes, signals, and networking — and adept at debugging at that level.

• Experience in developing distributed and/or cloud-native systems and comprehension of the failure modes encountered when operating across multiple clouds.

• Ability to write clear, well-structured, and thoroughly tested code; prioritize clarity and debuggability.

• Capable of navigating ambiguity and managing work autonomously.

• Familiarity with AI is essential, as we utilize it daily; while expertise is not required, an openness to its application is important.
