Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Design and develop comprehensive platform solutions, backend services, RESTful APIs, and front-end interfaces as necessary.

• Implement object-oriented programming, domain-driven design, and event-driven patterns effectively.

• Create, manage, and enhance scalable microservices and event-driven architectures.

• Take ownership of core RESTful platform APIs and shared frameworks.

• Streamline the process for engineering teams to utilize shared platform services.

• Produce clear documentation for platform services and frameworks.

• Architect and upgrade services on Azure and/or AWS platforms.

• Collaborate with cloud and DevOps engineering to ensure reliability and manage costs.

• Lead the integration of agentic AI, LLMs, and MCP-based functionalities into platform services.

• Assess AI coding tools and set forth guidelines for their responsible application.

• Manage the architecture and technical direction for platform-wide services and APIs.

• Provide mentorship to senior and lead engineers.

• Shape the technical direction across teams and serve as the primary expert for platform architecture decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience, including the architecture of complex, end-to-end platform solutions across various technology domains.

• Strong expertise in object-oriented programming and design patterns, such as domain-driven design (DDD), event-driven architecture, and microservices.

• Proficient in at least one backend programming language: Java, C#, or Python.

• Demonstrated full-stack experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs from the data layer to consuming services.

• Practical experience in building AI-powered features, including LLMs and AI agents.

• Experience using AI coding tools like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor in a responsible manner.

• Extensive hands-on experience with cloud-native architecture on Azure and/or AWS.

• Proven ability to simplify workflows for other engineers and produce clear, accessible documentation.

• Excellent communication skills to articulate technical trade-offs to engineers and business stakeholders.

• Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

• Preferred: Experience in front-end development with TypeScript/JavaScript and React or Angular.

• Preferred: Familiarity with MCP-based tools or agentic AI systems.

• Preferred: Experience in agent harness engineering and specification-driven development.

• Preferred: Knowledge of GraphQL or gRPC.

• Preferred: Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Solutions Architect, or similar cloud certification.
