Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Deliver technical leadership across various engineering teams and product lines.

• Guide solution design and actively participate in architectural decisions for new developments, integrations, modernization efforts, and platform enhancements.

• Collaborate with the Software Engineering Manager to establish and refine technical direction and engineering standards.

• Assess technical trade-offs and propose scalable, maintainable, secure, and reliable solutions.

• Create and support solutions utilizing .NET/C#, Azure, APIs, web applications, and associated data platforms.

• Contribute code to complex, high-impact, and cross-platform projects.

• Offer technical support for customer-facing applications, policy and claims platforms, integrations, and mobile apps.

• Develop prototypes and reference implementations.

• Diagnose complex application, integration, performance, and production issues.

• Conduct code and design reviews.

• Establish and advocate for best practices in software design, coding, API usage, integration, testing, observability, resiliency, security, cloud-native approaches, and source-control methodologies.

• Identify technical debt and prioritize remediation efforts in collaboration with engineering leadership and Product.

• Enhance Azure solutions, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, release quality, and environment consistency.

• Facilitate logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and application performance monitoring.

• Investigate and resolve critical production incidents to prevent future occurrences.

• Act as a technical escalation point across engineering divisions.

• Promote collaboration among Engineering, Product, QA, DevOps, Architecture, Security, and Operations teams.

• Mentor software engineers and senior engineers through reviews, design discussions, pairing, and technical coaching.

• Encourage cross-training and knowledge sharing.

• Define strategies for modernizing and refactoring legacy architecture and software.

• Drive enhancements to APIs, integrations, applications, and shared services.

• Engage in sprint planning, backlog refinement, technical discovery, and delivery processes using Azure DevOps.

• Collaborate with Product Owners and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technically robust solutions.

• Provide estimates, identify dependencies, and communicate implementation risks and trade-offs.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Extensive professional software engineering experience, demonstrating progression to senior technical leadership roles.

• Strong hands-on experience with .NET / C# application development.

• Comprehensive experience in developing cloud-based solutions using Microsoft Azure.

• Proficient in designing and developing APIs, integrations, distributed applications, and enterprise software systems.

• Strong understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design, design patterns, and modern engineering practices.

• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and contemporary deployment practices.

• Solid experience with SQL Server, relational data modeling, and application performance optimization.

• Experience in troubleshooting complex production applications and distributed systems.

• Ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams without direct reporting authority.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Preferred: experience with policy administration, claims, insurance, financial services, or regulated enterprise platforms.

• Preferred: experience in modernizing legacy .NET applications and architectures.

• Preferred: experience with Microsoft Dynamics and enterprise integrations.

• Preferred: familiarity with modern front-end frameworks and web application architecture.

• Preferred: experience in supporting or developing native iOS and/or Android applications.

• Preferred: experience in designing reusable APIs and integration platforms.

• Preferred: knowledge of application performance monitoring, observability, reliability engineering, and production support.

• Preferred: experience working with distributed or offshore engineering teams.
