Senior Software Architect – m/f/d

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Design the architecture of digital platforms and collaboratively enhance technical frameworks with the teams.

• Enhance code quality, foster a culture of reviews, improve testing, and ensure maintainability.

• Undertake specific development tasks and adapt flexibly across various teams.

• Engage in functional and technical analyses, contribute to solution discussions, and review merge requests.

• Provide support to developers through coaching and mentorship.

• Serve as a technical partner in discussions related to architecture, design, and implementation.

• Lead critical technical decision-making processes across team and system boundaries.

• Document outcomes clearly and traceably in Architecture Decision Records.

• Offer technical guidance to the Director, Lead Software Engineering, and related roles and teams.

• Clearly articulate the implications of technical decisions, associated risks, and necessary actions.

• Identify, evaluate, and communicate technical risks and technical debt transparently, ensuring they are addressed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of extensive experience in developing complex web applications and distributed software systems using Java and Spring Boot.

• Demonstrated experience in software architecture, solution design, and enhancing existing system landscapes.

• Ability to systematically analyze technical issues, evaluate solution options and their impacts, and drive informed decisions.

• Capability to work independently and effectively explain, document, and advocate for technical decisions to diverse stakeholders.

• Practical familiarity with architectural principles, modularization, HTTP, REST, API contract design, and distributed architectures like microservices or self-contained systems.

• Strong understanding of engineering excellence, particularly in code quality, review culture, maintainability, and sustainable management of technical debt.

• A proactive hands-on approach and willingness to continue actively developing software.

• Passion for coaching developers, sharing knowledge, and leading technical discussions in a constructive manner.

• Previous experience in e-commerce and highly available web platforms is advantageous.

• Familiarity with modern frontend architectures and frontend/backend integration, such as Next.js, is a plus.

• Experience with asynchronous communication and event-driven architecture, such as Kafka, is an asset.

• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and contemporary DevOps environments is a plus.

• Experience with GitLab, Git, and professional merge request and review practices is beneficial.

• Familiarity with Architecture Decision Records or similar methods is a plus.

• Experience with AI-assisted software development and, where applicable, Spec-Driven Development is a plus.
