Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design and develop the Cluster management platform.

• Serve as the primary technical authority for authentication, authorization, and identity logic within the Software Defined Storage solution.

• Collaborate with senior leadership and domain experts to advance core infrastructure and transition technical responsibilities.

• Work alongside the security team to implement compliant, high-performance user access controls.

• Conduct expert code reviews and mentor mid-level engineers.

• Produce comprehensive documentation for identity systems.

• Engage in the Scrum lifecycle from ideation and prototyping through testing and maintenance.

• Ensure high regression coverage for sensitive code paths.

• Take part in the global on-call rotation and provide high-level support for the distributed infrastructure.

⛳️ Requirements

• 12+ years of backend development experience.

• Strong proficiency in Go, C++, or Python within high-scale distributed systems.

• Extensive knowledge of RBAC, ABAC, and multi-tenancy models in containerized or orchestrated environments.

• Practical experience with TLS/mTLS, PKI management, certificate lifecycles, and OAuth2/OIDC.

• Familiarity with Consul, etcd, or other key/value stores for service discovery and global cluster state.

• Experience in balancing security mandates with storage control-plane performance requirements.

• Proven ability to work with geographically distributed teams using asynchronous communication, RFCs, and design documents.

• History of owning mission-critical domains, including long-term health, documentation, and scalability.

• Experience in developing API servers, controllers, or management layers for storage or compute resources.

• Experience collaborating with experts to document system architecture and institutionalize knowledge.

• Familiarity with Prometheus and OpenTelemetry.

• Ability to distill complex access challenges into developer-friendly CLI and API experiences.

• Strong prioritization and communication skills.

• Willingness to participate in a global on-call rotation.
