Software Engineer – Query Execution

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Develop and maintain components for the execution engine, which includes query operators, expression evaluation, execution scheduling, and resource management.

• Execute, test, debug, and uphold clearly defined modifications.

• Create clear and maintainable Java code while incorporating unit and integration tests.

• Adhere to engineering practices concerning code reviews, testing, and documentation.

• Analyze query accuracy, reliability, and performance issues utilizing query profiles, logs, telemetry, benchmarks, and production data.

• Gain knowledge in vectorized processing, concurrency, memory management, parallelism, data exchange, and disk spilling.

• Collaborate with senior engineers and partner teams to comprehend requirements, break tasks into manageable parts, and implement incremental enhancements.

• Utilize AI-driven development tools for code understanding, debugging, test creation, and documentation.

• Engage in design discussions and code reviews, seek constructive feedback, and assume broader technical responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Up to two years of professional software development experience, or equivalent experience gained through internships, academic coursework, or significant personal projects.

• Proficient in Java or another object-oriented programming language; eager to learn and work within a large Java codebase.

• Familiar with data structures, algorithms, and fundamental concurrency concepts.

• Capable of addressing well-defined technical challenges, asking insightful questions, and applying feedback to achieve solutions.

• Dedicated to writing tested, maintainable code and embracing established development, testing, and review methodologies.

• Able to effectively communicate progress, identify blockers promptly, and collaborate efficiently with team members.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
