Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop new features that enhance user navigation of government services and ensure a respectful user experience.

• Create automated tests and establish monitoring strategies to maintain a high level of service quality.

• Work in an iterative manner to deliver minimal features, gather insights, and refine them for scalability once validated.

• Participate in design, implementation, and code reviews, making informed technical trade-offs with the team, responsibly utilizing AI-assisted development.

• Take ownership of architecture and data modeling decisions for key components of a production system.

• Generate high-quality documentation and educational materials for both internal and external stakeholders.

• Set the direction for technical initiatives, foresee challenges, document decisions, and clarify the reasoning behind chosen approaches.

• Collaborate with Product Managers and cross-functional colleagues as priorities, technologies, and team requirements evolve.

• Commit to solutions when the team faces obstacles and adapt as new information becomes available.

• Mentor engineers in technical decision-making and engineering practices through pairing, documentation, structured learning, or coaching.

• Facilitate team norms, highlight dependencies, align shared practices, and enhance delivery methods.

• Report directly to the Engineering Manager.

• Travel required is limited to no more than 10% of the time.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on system architecture, data modeling, web technologies, and API design.

• Proven experience working with various languages, frameworks, and technology stacks, or a demonstrated ability to quickly become proficient in new ones.

• Proven capability to judiciously utilize AI coding tools, validating and refining generated code to ensure quality.

• Familiarity with Agile Software Development methodologies such as Scrum, XP, TDD, or BDD.

• Demonstrated technical leadership within a team setting.

• Experience with cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.

• Eager to collaborate with peers and provide technical and professional mentorship.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Deep understanding and experience in communicating with cross-functional colleagues, translating conversations into actionable tasks.

• Must reside primarily within the United States.

• Availability during internal working hours from 10 AM to 3 PM PT.
