Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Create and develop products that convert intricate payroll systems into user-friendly tools for operators and partners.

• Take charge of projects from start to finish, including problem identification, solution design, implementation, rollout, and iteration.

• Collaborate with product, design, and operations teams to comprehend the workflows and challenges faced by payroll operators and partners.

• Develop tools for internal and partner use that enhance the visibility, reliability, and clarity of financial transactions within the payroll system.

• Streamline workflows, architecture, and tools for both developers and operators.

• Convey technical concepts through code, proposals, and diagrams.

• Provide constructive feedback, mentor colleagues, and assist the team in producing high-quality results.

• Construct the platform that facilitates financial transactions, tax calculations, and compliance processes for thousands of businesses.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in taking ownership and delivering production systems from design to deployment and ongoing operation at a staff level.

• Background in building internal tools, developer platforms, or product systems that support complex operational workflows.

• Capability to navigate unclear problem domains and introduce structure through careful design and teamwork.

• Proficiency in debugging intricate systems and resolving issues that span multiple services or infrastructure layers.

• Skill in articulating technical trade-offs to engineers and cross-functional collaborators.

• Familiarity with or a willingness to learn technologies such as Python/Django, React, TypeScript, AWS, Terraform, Postgres, Temporal, and GitHub is advantageous.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States.
