This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the design and architecture for intricate projects and systems within the Datastore.
• Evaluate implementation trade-offs and support decisions using data.
• Collaborate with product managers, scientific and clinical stakeholders, development teams, and support teams.
• Convert requirements into integrations, services, and scalable data-platform solutions.
• Contribute to wider product and technical decisions.
• Diagnose and profile ambiguous issues across system boundaries.
• Enhance code structure, test coverage, and tooling.
• Implement features with a strong emphasis on data integrity, design quality, and maintainability.
• Draft RFCs and lead intricate feature discovery and technical design phases.
• Organize individual and team tasks while balancing speed, generalizability, and technical debt.
• Mentor and teach engineers while providing constructive feedback.
• Serve as a technical lead or coordination point for engineering practices.
• Enhance Datastore's operational robustness and usability through documentation, tools, and dashboards.
• Manage event pipelines, GraphQL APIs, core data models, third-party integrations, or PostgreSQL operations based on focus area.
• 7+ years of experience in backend development.
• A minimum of 3 years dedicated to data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric applications.
• Highly skilled in data modeling, distributed systems, API design, or database engineering.
• Strong expertise in SQL and practical experience with PostgreSQL.
• Experience in writing and tuning queries, as well as understanding schema design, indexes, and query plans.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar event-processing technologies, such as RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Amazon Kinesis.
• Proficient in Julia or Python; experience with Julia is a significant advantage but not mandatory.
• Experience in deploying and managing services in containerized environments.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and/or Helm.
• Proven track record of mentoring engineers and enhancing team practices, tooling, test coverage, or documentation.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-directed mindset with experience thriving in hybrid or fully remote teams.
• Experience or interest in LLM-assisted or agentic coding tools in production.
• For Datastore Systems: GraphQL, TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, event-driven pipeline design, replay, idempotency, and consumer lag handling.
• For PostgreSQL & Data Modeling: query planner, index selection, EXPLAIN (ANALYZE), schema design, zero-downtime migrations, dual-write transitions, backfills, verification, PostgreSQL operations, replication, backup and restore, connection pooling, bloat, vacuum behavior, and extensions.
