Staff Software Engineer, AI Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define the specifications necessary for AI to evolve into a reliable, organization-wide capability and convert the vision into a multi-quarter technical roadmap.

• Lead cross-functional projects to transform AI strategy into sustainable platform architecture, shared services, and operational models.

• Make informed technical trade-offs that balance speed with security, reliability, observability, cost, and maintainability.

• Remove obstacles across the AI Platform, product engineering, data, security, and infrastructure by aligning decisions across various systems and domains.

• Create standards and feedback mechanisms to oversee, govern, and continuously enhance AI-enabled systems.

• Anticipate limitations and propel technical investments that support Root’s next phase of AI integration.

• Mentor engineers and technical leaders through architecture guidance, mentorship, and sound systems judgment.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of experience as a software engineer.

• 3+ years of experience leading software teams or significant technical initiatives.

• Proven ability to establish technical direction and achieve results across multiple teams or within a substantial engineering domain.

• Extensive knowledge of cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, Terraform, secure software delivery, and production operations.

• Strong judgment in systems design focusing on reliability, observability, security, cost, and long-term maintainability.

• Experience in guiding AI/LLM platform or application architecture and responsibly assessing innovative technical solutions.

• Capability to drive implementation decisions across teams, clarify uncertainties, and convey complex subjects to senior leadership.

• History of shaping technical roadmaps, unlocking long-term value, and fostering the development of engineers beyond their immediate teams.

• Exceptional collaboration and influencing skills with engineering and cross-functional leaders.

• Must be on camera for virtual interviews.
