This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +1 more state.
• Design and develop AI-enhanced application features and services utilizing Azure Databricks and Microsoft Azure.
• Integrate large language models and machine learning solutions into Voyager products.
• Implement Generative AI capabilities such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings, vector searches, prompt/system design, tool/function calling, and agent workflows for senior positions.
• Create and utilize APIs and services that expose model functionalities to product interfaces.
• Employ evaluation harnesses, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop review processes.
• Collaborate with dlt, dbt, Dagster, Databricks Lakehouse, and Delta Lake to source and prepare foundational data and features.
• Deploy and version models and prompts using MLflow and Databricks Model Serving.
• Write clean, tested, and version-controlled code, deploying through Azure DevOps CI/CD.
• Instrument AI functionalities to monitor output quality, latency, drift, costs, and user feedback.
• Implement secure-by-default and privacy practices for sensitive customer and policyholder information.
• Work collaboratively with product managers, designers, data engineers, and the AI/ML Engineering Lead.
• Contribute to responsible AI and governance practices through thorough documentation and evaluative evidence.
• Actively seek and apply feedback; senior team members are expected to mentor junior engineers and share reusable AI patterns.
• Junior: 3–5 years of software development experience, with hands-on involvement in creating AI-powered or Generative AI applications.
• Senior: 5–8 years of software development experience, including recent hands-on work in building AI-powered or Generative AI applications.
• Proficiency in Python is required.
• Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript or a JVM-based language is advantageous.
• Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including APIs, services, and testing.
• Experience in developing Generative AI/LLM applications, encompassing RAG, embeddings, vector search/databases, prompt/system design, and evaluation.
• Proven experience in integrating models via APIs and model-serving platforms.
• Familiarity or experience with dlt (dltHub), dbt, and Dagster on a Databricks lakehouse (Delta Lake).
• CI/CD experience, preferably with Azure DevOps (ADO).
• Development practices based on Git, with support for testing.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, including AI/OpenAI services.
• Proficient in SQL and comfortable working with data.
• Strong attention to evaluation, documentation, and secure handling of sensitive information.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
• Preferred: Experience in financial services or insurance products.
• Preferred: Familiarity with agent and orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Semantic Kernel.
• Preferred: Experience with vector stores like Databricks Vector Search or Azure AI Search.
• Preferred: Front-end or full-stack experience in delivering AI functionalities in user-facing products.
• Preferred: Knowledge of responsible AI and evaluation tools, including bias/fairness, explainability, and model risk/governance.
• Preferred: Credentials such as Microsoft Azure AI Engineer Associate or Databricks GenAI/ML certification.
