Staff Software Development Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +44 more states.

📋 Description

• Design, architect, and develop high-performance microservices utilizing Java, JEE, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud.

• Lead the development of event-driven services leveraging Apache Kafka.

• Manage the API strategy for RESTful services, focusing on JSON modeling, backward-compatible versioning, and API governance.

• Provide mentorship to team members and contribute to engineering standards, design reviews, and coding best practices.

• Design and execute ETL pipelines for both structured and unstructured data.

• Oversee data migration initiatives for transitions from legacy systems to the cloud or between systems.

• Establish practices for data quality, profiling, and governance.

• Engage with clinical data formats, including mapping, transformations, and normalization.

• Construct and maintain CI/CD automation, automated testing, security scanning, artifact provenance, and policy gates.

• Deploy and manage services on the Google Cloud Platform.

• Promote SecDevOps practices, including threat modeling, secure coding, dependency scanning, secrets management, and container hardening.

• Implement observability frameworks that include tracing, dashboards, alerts, and Service Level Objectives (SLOs).

• Integrate microservices with EHR systems using HL7 v2, FHIR, SMART on FHIR, and standard healthcare APIs.

• Facilitate patient data exchange, interoperability, and HIPAA-compliant data flows.

• Collaborate with compliance and security teams to enforce regulatory safeguards.

• Act as a senior technical leader within a cross-functional product team focused on developing scalable healthcare technology solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of professional software engineering experience in enterprise settings.

• More than 7 years of experience in developing applications with Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, and RESTful services.

• At least 5 years of experience in designing and implementing microservices architectures.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience with Apache Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies.

• 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps methodologies.

• More than 3 years of experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

• At least 2 years of experience working with public cloud platforms, including GCP, AWS, or Azure.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (High School diploma plus 4 years of relevant experience).

• Experience in integrating with healthcare systems using FHIR, HL7, SMART on FHIR, or EHR platforms like Epic, Cerner, or MEDITECH.

• Proven experience leading technical initiatives and influencing engineering decisions across teams.

• Strong grasp of software design principles, scalable architectures, and distributed systems.

• Experience in building and operating solutions on the Google Cloud Platform.

• Involvement in large-scale application modernization, cloud transformation, or data migration projects.

• Knowledge of ETL processes, data quality practices, and healthcare data management.

• Experience with Spring Batch, Dataflow, or cloud-native data processing frameworks.

• Understanding of security best practices such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, secrets management, and vulnerability management.

• Experience in implementing monitoring and observability solutions using OpenTelemetry, Grafana, or similar platforms.

• Familiarity with regulated healthcare environments, including HIPAA and HITRUST requirements.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
