Staff Software Development Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable and robust platform services, APIs, and data pipelines.

• Take ownership of the architecture for intricate, cross-functional systems and outline the interfaces and contracts that other teams rely on.

• Provide technical guidance and lead the design for complex projects that involve multiple teams.

• Assess functional and technical requirements to pinpoint gaps and limitations, suggest simplifications, and effectively communicate ideas with cross-functional teams.

• Mentor and coach engineers, fostering best practices in security, operational excellence, and cloud-native development.

• Contribute to organization-wide platform initiatives, aligning technical strategies with business objectives across BeyondTrust.

• Enhance quality, observability, and performance within the services your team manages.

• Assist in clarifying ambiguity to ensure that work is well-defined, appropriately scoped, and sequenced.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in architecting and developing microservices and cloud-native solutions.

• Strong programming abilities in C#, Go, TypeScript, Java, or other contemporary languages, with extensive experience in API design and microservices architecture.

• Practical experience with Claude Code (or similar agentic AI coding tools) to design, create, and review software rapidly, with the discernment to establish effective patterns and guardrails for the team.

• Experience in designing systems, interfaces, and contracts utilized by multiple teams or products.

• Strong, hands-on expertise in AWS for designing, hosting, and operating production applications at scale, including compute (e.g., EKS), networking, IAM, managed data stores, and effective scaling, reliability, and cost trade-offs.

• Understanding of CICD strategies and practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).

• Familiarity with data modeling, exploration, and visualization at scale.

• Demonstrated success in leading cross-team technical initiatives.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to navigate ambiguity while steering technical direction.

• Experience with modern observability and testing strategies in cloud environments.

• Full-stack familiarity (e.g., a modern JavaScript framework like Angular or React with TypeScript) is a plus.
