Staff Software Defined Infrastructure Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and execution of Software Defined Infrastructure solutions utilizing Infrastructure as Code tools like Ansible and Terraform.

• Design and implement automated provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of servers, containers, and Kubernetes clusters in both on-premises and cloud environments.

• Create tools, services, and frameworks to orchestrate infrastructure workflows, validate configurations, and integrate with CI/CD pipelines.

• Lead the transition of traditional IT environments to automated, software-defined platforms.

• Establish and uphold standards, patterns, and best practices for Infrastructure as Code, automation, testing, and documentation.

• Work collaboratively with software engineering and IT infrastructure teams to devise resilient, scalable, and secure architectures for mission-critical systems.

• Manage and enhance containerized and Kubernetes-based environments, including cluster configuration, observability, and incident response.

• Engage in Agile activities such as backlog grooming, sprint planning, and continuous improvement.

• Mentor and guide junior engineers.

• Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions, design reviews, and documentation efforts.

⛳️ Requirements

• 12 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree; 10 years with a Master's degree; 8 years with a PhD.

• Candidates must be able to obtain a U.S. Government Secret level security clearance as a condition of continued employment.

• Extensive experience in designing and implementing automated infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible and Terraform.

• Strong proficiency in Python, including the development of automation services, libraries, or frameworks with comprehensive testing and documentation.

• Experience in leading migrations from traditional IT settings to software-defined, automated platforms.

• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or similar), including cluster-level configuration and lifecycle management.

• Daily development and administration experience in Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, or similar).

• Experience in maintaining production-grade applications or platform services in virtualized or cloud environments such as Amazon Web Services, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

• Proven track record of working with and communicating accomplishments to both internal and external customers, including technical briefings and status updates.

• Experience in mentoring junior engineers and contributing to knowledge-sharing sessions and documentation.

• Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.

• Preferred: Experience in deploying and managing CI/CD pipelines that integrate Infrastructure as Code, automated testing, and environment promotion.

• Preferred: Experience with infrastructure and Kubernetes monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar.

• Preferred: Experience in integrating security and compliance tooling into automated pipelines and deploying them in classified or air-gapped environments.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Git-based workflows, including branching strategies and code review practices.

• Preferred: Experience with model-based or declarative configuration approaches and configuration management at scale.

• Preferred: Excellent communication skills with the capability to influence architectural decisions and drive alignment among stakeholders.
